Trip to OnCampus Boston

Trip to OnCampus Boston

OnCampus Boston was a whole different experience for me because I had never heard of the program they offer and it was my first time studying abroad. Basically, the College which is located in Boston has a one year program called “On Campus Boston”or “OCB” that allows a student to earn some credits in order to transfer to any university of your choice within and out the U.S.

Students will take general courses and preferred courses if available; students will get to interact with core students and staff. OCB staff will supervise and make sure students’ grades are good. The staffs also ensure we all attend classes early and participate in academic activities and also class activities.

I am currently in my 2nd year studying Engineering at University of Massachusetts in Boston after successfully completing my year 1 at OnCampus Boston.

Interview with Alaye’s Parent

Do you think the programme delivers its objectives which Include:

1. Giving an international student a soft landing?

Answer: True, international students are given a soft landing at the OnCampus Boston. There are international students from China, Nigeria etc and Americans. That made learning especially in the use of English language interesting.

2. A good foundation to build on before progressing to year 2 of a university of their choice?

Answer: I believe this program provided Alaye a sound foundation for him to build upon as he progresses further to his major. The credit gained from this program has reduced his work load in the 2nd year of his studies. He moved straight to his 2nd year on successful completion of the program with a good GPA.

3. Supervisory role and maturity for the student?

Answer: The teachers and staff of the college provided me with progress report whenever I demanded or wrote to them. In one occasion personal observations concerning my son was made and I knew there was personal contact and monitoring of each student’s performance/progress.

4. Sense of belonging and security?

Answer: Same as 3 above The staff assist by guiding the students to succeed. I find that encouraging. The students’ hostel is adequately secured and smoking disallowed on campus. Besides Boston is a safe academic environment.

5. Academic supervision and excellence to progress to high universities
Answer: As in 3 above.
